Overview
CTEC – Clinical Training & Education Centre is Australia’s premier medical and surgical skills training centre. It caters for a wide range of medical professionals at all stage of their careers.
CTEC has world class training facilities including the Centre for Anaesthesia Skills & Medical Simulation ('CASMS'), The Hill Surgical Workshop, Skills Practice & Resource Room, Educational Design & Research Unit, Physician Skills Unit and Medical Media Unit. Almost 10,000 medical professionals have attended a wide variety of training courses at CTEC since the centre was officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen in 2000.
CTEC is uniquely positioned because of the strong educational design consulting it offers. The focus of the Educational Design & Research Unit is on the analysis of training needs, curriculum design, identifications of training outcomes, development of appropriate training models and evaluating the impact of the training on practice and performance.

CTEC is supported financially through an unincorporated joint venture of The University of Western Australia, Health Department of Western Australia, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, The Royal College of Surgeons of England, and The Hill Surgical Foundation.
Technology/IP
CTEC boasts Australia’s largest range and number of sophisticated medical training equipment including computerised simulation models, high fidelity simulation manikins and extensive audiovisual and videoconferencing facilities.
The Centre for Anaesthesia Skills & Medical Simulation ('CASMS') is a virtual hospital complete with three fully equipped high fidelity simulation suites used for anaesthesia, intensive care, emergency care and pre-hospital care training.
The Hill Surgical Workshop is a custom built laboratory which resembles an oversized operating suite complete with 10 operating theatre tables, which is used for surgical skills training in a variety of disciplines.
The Skills Practice & Resource Room contains sophisticated computerised simulation equipment. One such simulator is the GI Mentor which is used for endoscopy training. The models contain haptic feedback and performance monitoring mechanisms.
CTEC houses extensive audiovisual equipment and is equipped with full videoconferencing capabilities. An extension of this is the Medical Media Unit which contains excellent DVD design, editing and production facilities.

CTEC collaborates with leading universities, hospitals, professional bodies and industry to design, develop, run and evaluate courses in many clinical disciplines.
